In the main event, Rodriguez improved to 24-0 (17 KOs) with the sixth-round stoppage of Vargas, who fell to 19-2-1 (11 KOs). Rodriguez secured the victory at 1:15 of the sixth round of their scheduled 12-round bout.
Vargas had the edge in the opening round, outlanding Rodriguez. Rodriguez responded well in the second round, using movement effectively before Vargas closed the frame strongly with a late flurry. Vargas continued to enjoy success in the third and fourth rounds, often beating Rodriguez to the punch.
The fight turned dramatically in the fifth round when Rodriguez landed an overhand left that dropped Vargas early in the round. Referee Chris Flores administered the count as Vargas rose to continue.
In the sixth round, Rodriguez closed the show. A sharp three-punch combination sent Vargas to the canvas again, and Flores counted Vargas out, giving Rodriguez another world title to add to his growing résumé.
In the co-main event, Arturo Cardenas improved to 18-0-2 (9 KOs) by defeating Jordan Martinez, who dropped to 16-1-1 (15 KOs), over 10 rounds.
The opening two rounds were competitive, with Cardenas pressing the action and holding a slight advantage. Martinez found success in the third and fourth rounds with his counterpunching and movement, rocking Cardenas with a left hand near the end of the fourth.
Cardenas answered in the fifth round, landing a right hand that got Martinez’s attention in another close stanza. From the sixth through ninth rounds, the action remained competitive, though Cardenas appeared to gain an edge with his body attack. In the 10th and final round, Cardenas seemed to outland Martinez enough to secure the decision.
The judges scored the bout 100-90, 98-92, and 97-93. Raul Caiz Jr. served as referee.
In lightweight action, Elias Terraza remained unbeaten, improving to 14-0 (9 KOs), with a second-round stoppage of Adrian Rodriguez, who fell to 10-1 (6 KOs).
Terraza used his height advantage effectively in the opening round, establishing his jab and landing a right hand to Rodriguez’s temple in the closing minute. Early in the second round, Terraza dropped Rodriguez with an overhand right. After Rodriguez beat the count, Terraza swarmed him with a sustained attack, forcing referee Chris Flores to stop the contest at the 2:30 mark.
IBF women’s lightweight champion Elif Nur Turhan retained her title with a narrow unanimous decision over Gabriela “Sosa” Tellez.
Turhan improved to 14-0 (8 KOs), while Tellez dropped to 7-1 (3 KOs). Despite the official verdict, the bout was competitive throughout.
Turhan boxed effectively in the early rounds, while Tellez had success landing right hands, particularly late in the opening frame. Turhan appeared to edge the middle rounds before Tellez rallied in the fifth.
Turhan landed a solid right hand in the closing seconds of the sixth round that briefly rocked Tellez. In the seventh, Tellez responded with a left hook that drew blood from Turhan’s mouth before the champion finished the round strongly.
The ninth round was closely contested, with Turhan appearing to outwork Tellez. During the final round, referee Richard Hoyle twice warned Turhan for pushing Tellez to the canvas. Turhan pressed hard for a stoppage in the closing moments, landing a wild right hand as the fight came to an end.
All three judges scored the contest 96-94 in favor of Turhan.
