Shakur Stevenson Accuses Devin Haney of “Fake Public Negotiations” After 144-Pound Agreement

Potential negotiations between Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson took another public turn after Stevenson accused his rival of engaging in “fake public negotiations” following Haney’s latest social media comments.

Haney appeared frustrated after previously agreeing to Stevenson’s proposed 144-pound catchweight, suggesting that even accepting those terms had failed to move the fight closer to becoming a reality.

“144 wasn’t enough… still don’t wanna fight! Damn.. @ShakurStevenson,” Haney wrote on X.

Shakur later responded, dismissing the public exchange as a poor reflection of how major fights are actually made.

“This the same thing yall pulled with Rolly. All these fake public negotiations … Real negotiations happen offline. I’m the truth u will see when u get in front of me!!” Shakur posted.

Shakiur had previously identified 144 pounds as a fair compromise for a potential showdown with Haney, who has competed at welterweight in his most recent outings. Haney subsequently signaled his willingness to accept the catchweight proposal, creating optimism that one of boxing’s most talked-about matchups could gain momentum.

The latest exchange also came shortly after the WBO reaffirmed that Haney must either defend his welterweight title against mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis or risk vacating the belt. While neither Haney nor Stevenson directly referenced the situation in their recent posts, the development added another consideration to any future negotiations involving the former two-division world champions.

With Haney facing a decision on his WBO title and Shakur insisting that serious negotiations take place behind closed doors, the pressure now falls on both camps to determine if the fight can move beyond online exchanges.
