Nuggets part with longtime TV broadcasters Scott Hastings, Chris Marlowe in local network shakeup

The Denver Nuggets have parted with the longtime local TV broadcast team of Scott Hastings and Chris Marlowe.

Team reporter and studio analyst Chris Dempsey was also let go as part of a talent shakeup at the team’s regional sports network, Altitude Sports, the Denver Post reported Wednesday.

Marlowe later confirmed on social media that the Nuggets had declined to renew his contract after his 22 years of working as the team’s regional TV play-by-play voice.

“All good things must come to an end,” Marlowe wrote. “I wanted to let you know personally that I will not be returning as the play-by-play announcer for the Denver Nuggets next season. Altitude Sports is moving in a difference direction and decided not to renew my contract.”

Hastings did not make a public comment as of Wednesday afternoon.

Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, the parent company run by Stan Kroenke that owns the Nuggets, Avalanche, Los Angeles Rams and Arsenal F.C. among other sports and entertainment holdings, did not address the reported dismissals. It wasn’t clear as of Wednesday who would replace the mainstays of Nuggets broadcasting.

Hastings played 11 NBA seasons with five different teams from 1982-93, including his final two seasons with the Nuggets. Per the Post, Hastings had worked as a color analyst for the Nuggets and Broncos for various broadcasters since his retirement as a player in 1993. He’ll continue to co-host a sports talk show on Altitude’s radio network, per the report.

Marlowe had called Nuggets games for Altitude since Kroenke launched the network in 2004. He was a gold medalist on the 1984 U.S. men’s Olympic volleyball team and has worked calling beach volleyball at the Olympics for seven different Games, per the Post.

Nuggets broadcast hosts and reporters Katy Winge and Vic Lombardi will be retained, the Post reports. Lombardi addressed the dismissals on social media.

“Chris Dempsey is one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met,” Lombardi wrote. “He’s a fellow native. I’m gonna miss our thoughtful conversations about Denver sports.

“Scott Hastings, often blunt but always fair, you carry more than a quarter-century of lore. Thanks for teaching all of us the game. Will never forget how emotional you got during the final seconds of Game Five in ‘23.

“Chris Marlowe — you are a mentor and a friend. Many of us consider you THE VOICE of Nuggets basketball. You will always be the voice. And we will truly miss that voice.”
