Billam-Smith later reassured fans with a message posted on social media.

“I have been taken to hospital but it is very precautionary.

“I am absolutely fine, they are just going to do some tests but all is well.

“Thank you for your support tonight. Another unbelievable night.

“Love you all, thank you so much, and see you all soon.”

The image shared by Zuffa Boxing on Sunday showed the extent of the damage suffered by both men. Billam-Smith and Rozicki posed together after the fight with badly marked-up faces following one of the most punishing cruiserweight contests of the year.

Zuffa Boxing chief Dana White explained that neither fighter was allowed to speak to the media after the bout as he wanted both men checked immediately.

“We sent them both to the hospital, they’re both getting checked out,” said White.

“I got my guy, Dave Lewis, and I said, no interviews, no nothing. I want both these guys to go straight to the hospital.”

White added that fighter safety remains one of his biggest priorities.

“In 30 years of the UFC, there’s never been a death or serious injury. And it’s important for me to keep that run alive, especially with boxing.”

The victory puts Billam-Smith in line for another major fight at cruiserweight. However, after the amount of punishment absorbed by both fighters during the seven-round war, many fans will be interested to see how long the Bournemouth native takes before returning to the ring.
