Canelo Alvarez says Jake Paul keeps bringing up his name because he needs it to help sell fights and pay-per-views.
The Mexican star dismissed Jake’s recent comments about a possible mega-fight and the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s claims of a massive $200 million offer. Canelo dismissed the idea that Paul’s events can generate major business on their own.
“What I realize that in every single event. They need to talk about me to sell tickets and PPVs,” said Canelo Alvarez to Mr. Verzace at Ring Magazine.
“There’s other fights there, and they always talk about Canelo. ‘Canelo in this, and I want to fight Canelo,’ because they don’t sell tickets. They don’t sell pay-per-views. They need to mention my name, and I think Jake Paul don’t sell too much tickets for a fight he has with his company. I don’t know. That’s why he brings that situation. That $200 million.”
Jake Paul recently claimed a fight with Canelo would be “the biggest fight in boxing” and publicly floated enormous purse figures during interviews and livestream appearances earlier this month.
“Yeah, 200 [million] for him, 300 [million] for me. We’ll get the deal done. Easy work,” Paul said during a Fight Hub TV appearance.
Paul has repeatedly mentioned Canelo since their failed discussions in 2025, often accusing the Mexican star of turning toward Saudi-backed events instead of facing him. Canelo’s latest comments suggest he sees the callouts as promotion rather than serious negotiations.
No fight between the two has been announced or finalized.
