Afterward, Charles strongly defended Dubois against the “quitting” narrative that has followed the heavyweight since his previous defeats.

“Nobody Could Ever Question Him Again”

“No human being on this planet could ever question this kid ever again.

“Certainly don’t question him in front of me,” Charles said to Fight Hub TV.

Charles went even further by suggesting the difficult nature of the fight may have actually helped Dubois silence the criticism permanently.

“I’m Glad The Fight Went That Way”

“It’s almost like I’m glad the fight went that way.

“You know why? So he could demonstrate this Britain narrative. He’s not.

“We know he’s not. The people around him know he’s not,” Charles said.

The veteran trainer repeatedly praised both fighters for the punishment they absorbed during the heavyweight battle and said the fight reminded him of older heavyweight wars from previous eras.

“Boxing Won Tonight”

“There was no losers in there tonight.

“Boxing won tonight,” Charles said.

Charles also compared the action to some of the heavyweight fights he grew up watching decades ago.

“I don’t believe I’d apart from when you go back to the 80s, the days of Ron Lyle, George Foreman, Ernie Shavers.

“That’s the last time I saw any heavyweight fight that might resemble that. But this was better,” Charles said.

During the fight itself, television cameras caught Charles slapping Dubois in the corner between rounds. Charles later explained it was done to mentally refocus his fighter.

“Wake Him Up”

“An instinctive vibration energy to wake him up to make him realize the task he’s got ahead.

“There’s still a job to be done,” Charles said.

Charles also praised Wardley’s toughness and said both fighters earned respect for the way they handled themselves during the fight.

“What a warrior.

“They both came out of that grueling epic healthy. That’s the most important,” Charles said.
