Carlos Adames Tells Iglesias Team Is Waiting

Carlos Adames Tells Iglesias Team Is Waiting

Carlos Adames is keeping the pressure on Osleys Iglesias, making it clear he still wants the fight after their recent online back-and-forth. The WBC middleweight champion returned to social media on Monday with another direct message aimed at the unbeaten IBF super middleweight titleholder as talk of a move to 168 pounds continues.

“My team is waiting. Come on, little fire, I’ve got the extinguishers ready,” said Adames on X.

The comment was an obvious response to Iglesias calling himself “fire” during their earlier exchange. Iglesias had dismissed Adames’ challenge by warning that he did not want that fire, while also mocking Adames’ “Bronco” nickname.

Instead of cooling it down, Adames has chosen to keep the public pressure on. That usually means one thing in boxing: a fighter wants the matchup known before negotiations even begin.

Adames has spoken in recent weeks about targeting bigger names and bigger opportunities at super middleweight after establishing himself at 160. His March win over Austin Williams strengthened his position, but the Dominican fighter appears more interested in fresh options than staying tied to the middleweight picture.

Iglesias would be a dangerous first move at 168. The Cuban puncher has built a reputation as one of the division’s hardest hitters and has been looking for higher-profile opponents. A fight with Adames would give him exactly that while also bringing another titleholder into the mix.

Whether talks are real or only social media sparring remains to be seen. Fighters call each other out online every week, and many of those bouts go nowhere. Still, Adames keeps returning to Iglesias by name, and that usually tells you where his head is.

The fight would be risky for both men. That is why it feels more serious than the usual online back-and-forth.

The southpaw-versus-southpaw dynamic usually favors the fighter with the better jab and greater length. At 6’2″, Iglesias holds a significant height and reach advantage over the naturally smaller Adames.

If Adames secures the IBF 168-lb belt, he becomes a mandatory roadblock for Canelo Alvarez. Even if a Canelo fight doesn’t materialize, a unification or a high-profile defense against someone like Hamzah Sheeraz becomes a massive Riyadh Season attraction.

Delivering a classic against a dangerous Cuban “boogeyman” is exactly how a fighter earns a multi-fight deal in the current boxing economy.
