The undercard for the WBC interim lightweight champion William Zepeda vs. Tevin Farmer 2 rematch on March 29th will have WBA/WBO minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo (11-0, 8 KOs) defending against Edwin Cano (13-2-1, 4 KOs) at the Poliforum Benito Juárez in Cancún, Mexico. The event will be shown live on DAZN.

Callazo-Cano will make it interesting, but the fight will not attract many fans for this card. Cano can’t punch and will be food for Collazo to destroy early. Golden Boy needs to add a much better fight than this to the Zepeda-Farmer 2 card to get fans interested in watching on March 29th.

Farmer 2: Why?

The decision to put Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) back in with the former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) in a rematch has to be second-guessed because they already fought on November 16th last year. Zepeda beat Farmer by a 10-round split decision in a fight that wasn’t all that competitive if you factor in all the body shots William landed. The scores were 95-94, 95-94 for Zepeda and 95-94 for Farmer.

Farmer, 34, was wilting from the eighth round, doubled over at times from the punches to the breadbasket from Zepeda. Why on earth did the judges score it so close? One of them even had Farmer winning, which is crazy because he was getting battered to the midsection.

If and when Zepeda wins this fight on March 29th, Golden Boy must move him on and not waste time with a third fight. With all the many contenders available to Zepeda, he shouldn’t get stuck on the rematch cycle against his complaining foes, as Farmer has done here.

No matter how one-sided Zepeda beats him, Farmer will probably muddy the water by saying he deserved the win. He has no other choice but to make it seem controversial because if he admits he lost, his chances of getting a third fight are down the drain.

Stevenson Awaits

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and his promoter Eddie Hearn want to make the fight with Zepeda next. That would be a good fight for Golden Boy to set up. Shakur had problems beating the electrician Josh Padley in his last fight on February 22nd. Just imagine what Zepeda will do to him. Shakur is another complainer. If he loses or looks bad against Zepeda, he’ll probably blame it on his glasses hands.

Undercard

Oscar Collazo vs. Edwin Cano
Joselito Velázquez vs. TBA
Robin Safar vs. Roberto Silva
Yokasta Valle vs. Marlen Esparza

“We will make the most of this opportunity and show once again that we are the best in the 105-pound division in the world,” said Collazo.
