After reportedly considering opening their playoff run with Max Fried on the hill, they instead chose their presumptive Cy Young Award winner. “He wants the ball, and he’s ready to go,” manager Aaron Boone said simply. Fried is now lined up to start Game 2, with Gerrit Cole in wait should a Game 3 be needed.

Judge and his manager did not see eye to eye when discussing his injury last week, with the Yankees captain pushing back on the idea that he would not be ready for the first round.
Associated Press: The Yankees’ season ended at Game 161, with a rainout Sunday that will not be made up. This weekend’s nor’easter caused Saturday’s game to be rescheduled to Friday, but with the playoffs looming there was no time to reschedule Sunday’s affair. With a win in that game, they would have been the first franchise in history to finish with the same record (94-67) in three straight seasons. The Yankees had played 162 games in all non-shortened seasons since 2002.
