STUNNED Manchester United fans hit out after new boy Patrick Dorgu was thrown straight into the team – but OUT of position.
The Dane started at home to Leicester in the FA Cup at RIGHT wing-back.
Yet the 20-year-old was signed as a long-term solution for United’s perennial problems in defence down the opposite flank.
So when here was deployed on what most people reckon is his weaker side, viewers couldn’t contain their bemusement.
One blasted, “WTF is going on” and another posted: “Don’t think Dorgu suits it.”
It came just a day after after his old club Lecce claimed the Red Devils had given them a “now or never ultimatum” over his transfer.
The Italians had vowed to keep their hot prospect until at least the summer.
Many observers were then surprised to see him instantly earn a place in Ruben Amorim’s team for Friday’s fourth-round tie.
Amorim fielded three centre-backs, with Dorgu in front of the trio on one flank and Diogo Dalot on the left.
The deadline recruit was rated highly in Serie A for his attacking forays.
And after watching his Old Trafford bow, one cynical observer wrote: “Has Dorgu set up two and scored yet? Oh, he’s playing right wing back, you say?”
The four-cap starlet gradually got into the game against the lowly Foxes.
And he twice threatened outside the corner of the box following overlapping runs just past the quarter-hour mark.
However, many fans still couldn’t understand Amorim’s tactics.
One blasted: “Why should Amorim start Dorgu at the right back and yet we have Dalot!
“This Amorim is like he doesn’t want help, buying a left back player and putting him out of position at his debut is really wrong.”
But some viewers reckoned Dorgu looked comfortable.
One insisted: “Dorgu knows what he’s doing but Dalot doesn’t.”
