Chris Eubank Jr. has no regrets about being fined $129,000 for his Egging of Conor Benn during their face-off last month. He feels that it was worth it for him. Eubank Jr. was unhappy that Benn tested positive for a PED in the first place, when the two were supposed to fight in October 2022. Understandably, Chris Jr was angry and felt Benn would cheat to win. So, the egging is his way to pay him back.
Controversy Sells
Being fined that amount is insignificant compared to the money Eubank Jr. will make from this fight. Eubank Jr. will need to keep up the antics to get fans from outside the UK interested in purchasing this event on DAZN PPV. There’s still too much time to go before their fight on April 26th, and people will forget about it.
The egging by Eubank Jr. (34-3, 25 KOs) will pay off in the end because more people will purchase the event now than they were before. It was just a dull match-up for fans outside of the UK because neither of these guys have done anything in their careers and don’t figure to.
Eubank Jr. vs. Benn will fight on April 26th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. There’s talk of Turki Alalshikh wanting to match the winner of this fight against Canelo Alvarez in 2026. That would be a big deal for UK fans, as they’re into these two fighters and follow them.
Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was up in arms about the egging last month, feeling that he could have been injured. He initially thought Eubank Jr. had smacked Conor with glass in the face and looked like he was going to brawl on the stage. It’ll be interesting to know what Hearn’s view is of Eubank Jr’s fine. Will he be satisfied or feel he got off lightly?
