MARIA SHARAPOVA had a crowd in stitches as she spoke to a fan’s wife.
The former Wimbledon champion, 37, was appearing at a USTA event in Carlsbad, California.
During the event, Sharapova took questions in front of a 1,200-strong audience.
As the conversation went on, one questioner’s phone awkwardly began to ring.
To the delight of the crowd, Sharapova answered the call, which came from his wife, Kelly.
“Kelly, Kelly, this is Maria Sharapova and we are in front of 1,200 people,” the Russian said.
“So just say hello.”
To the delight of the crowd, Kelly responded: “But… hello!”
Sharapova then added: “Your dear husband said that you were calling so we had to answer. He says he loves you!”
The five-time Major champion, and everyone in the audience, then laughed again as Kelly replied: “Alrighty!”
Sharapova then handed the phone back, saying: “I’ll let you finish this conversation offline.
A member of the audience captured the phone call on video and posted it to Instagram.
He captioned the vid: “Just in case you didn’t know, Maria Sharapova is so funny.
“She just live chatted with a person’s wife who was calling while he was asking a question to her. Such a fun moment!”
Sharapova retired from tennis in January 2020.
She won five Grand Slam titles and spent 21 weeks as world No.1.
