Sinner: Can’t believe it
Here’s what Sinner has to say about reaching the Wimbledon final for the first time.
Sinner said: “It’s amazing, I can’t believe it. It’s a tournament I always watched when I was young and I would have never imagined I could play in the final.
“I know how much work me and my team are putting in, my dad and brother arrived today so it’s even more special, and playing here in front of you guys is amazing.”
The final farewell?
Who knows if that is the last we will see of Novak Djokovic here at Wimbledon.
I don’t think even he knows just yet.
But if it is, it did not end the way he would have wanted – clearly not fully fit and very obviously outplayed by the world No1.
A first Wimbledon final without the Serbian since 2017 awaits.
But if it is his goodbye, he was given a wonderful send-off by this Centre Court crowd who have grown to love and appreciate him more and more in the latter years of his extraordinary career.
But…
The only bad news is…
We have to wait 45 hours until Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.
Not sure how much sleep I’ll get between now and then.
Excitement levels are through the roof already.

But this afternoon belongs to Jannik Sinner after that ruthless, emphatic performance.
He joins an illustrious list of names.
Since 1995, only five men have reached the final of all four Grand Slams…
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray… and now Jannik Sinner.
“Not bad company,” the Italian jokes.

It’s all over for Djokovic.
His 2025 Wimbledon is over.
His quest for a 25th Grand Slam is over for now.
And is that Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon done for good?
No touch or kiss of the grass like he did on the clay at Roland Garros but a parting wave and a standing ovation for quite possibly the greatest ever.

So, Sinner to serve for a place in the final against Carlos Alcaraz…
Dream start. A comfortable baseline exchange ends as Djokovic drifts long.
He can’t compete in best-of-five-set tennis with the man 14 years his junior any longer.
Djokovic misses a backhand. 30-0.
Great serve out wide and the return lands in the tramlines. 40-0.
Three more match points for a two-hour thumping…
Not this time either! Sinner nets a plus-one forehand. That’s three match points gone, but two remain…
And this time he gets it.
Sinner pings a serve wide into the corner, Djokovic just about gets it back into play on the forehand but it sits up ever so nicely for Sinner to have an easy forehand putaway.
And it is made even easier by the fact that Djokovic is already walking towards the net to shake hands before Sinner even makes contact with the ball.
