Anisimova receives a warm pep talk by Kate as she receives her runner-up plate.
Through tears, Anisimova told Annabel Croft: “Iga, you’re such an incredible player, which obviously showed today, you’ve been such an inspiration to me.”
She then added: “It’s so special so congratulations to you, and your team.”
Through more tears, Anisimova graciously said: “Thank you to everyone who’s supported me since my first round match here, it’s been such an incredible atmosphere.”
Anisimova added: “I ran out of gas a bit today, I wish I could put on a better performance for all of you.”
After thanking her mother, who flew in this morning, Anisimova struggled to contain her tears.
“Thank you for breaking the superstition and flying in today, it’s not why I lost today,” Anisimova joked, raising a laugh from the Centre Court crowd.
Well done to the beaten finalist for bravely getting through that. That must have been hard.
