Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams weighed in at 160-lbs at the limit, and his opponent, Patrice Volny came in at 159.4 lbs, at Friday’s weigh-in for their 12-round middleweight headliner this Saturday, March 15th at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

Berlanga Overweight

Edgar Berlanga missed weight in the co-feature, coming in at 169.6 lbs for his 10-round fight against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz. For his part, the 35-year-old Puerto Rican fighter weighed in at 167.4 lbs, but looked flabby around the midsection, sporting a Fury-esque physique.

It’s not a huge shock that the former world title challenger Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) came in heavy, as he reportedly rehydrated to 193 lbs for his fight against the WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on September 14th last year at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Berlanga looked like a cruiserweight in that fight after weighing in at 167 3/4 lbs.

Berlanga has repeatedly told the media this week that this is his farewell fight with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing promotion, and will be moving on to test the free agent market, where he expects to be a huge demand for him. He says he wants to be a partner with the promoter and network that signs him.

Hearn on Ammo Williams

“Great preparation, that has been the difference. Sometimes the preparation has been hot and cold. This time, he’s got it right,” said Eddie Hearn to DAZN Boxing, talking about Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams. “He still has a world class opponent in Patrice Volny in front of him.

“It’s a very, very tough fight, it’s a great fight. It’s the kind of fight that is going to prove if he’s ready to move on and fight for the championship of the world in the middleweight division. He’s a great character. It’s an incredible story, and he’s got it all, but he’s got to win tomorrow night in a tough fight. It’ll be a very good one.

“If you look at the champions [Janibek Alimkhanuly, Carlos Adames and Erislandy Lara], they’re all tremendous fighters, but their profile and starpower in some respects. Adames [WBC middleweight champion], Lara [WBA] and the WBO champion [Janibek] probably set to move up at some point as well.

“The kids [Ammo Williams] a star, but you’ve got to win, you’ve got to look good and you’ve got to prove your credentials as an elite middleweight. In the past, he fell once against Hamzah Sheeraz [on June 1st, 2024, losing by an 11th round TKO]. Arguably, he shouldn’t have been in the ring that night, but Hamzah is a class operator and it was  a great fight,” said Hearn.
