WBC interim lightweight champion William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer got into a brief shoving alteration at today’s weigh-in for their rematch in this Saturday, March 29th event, starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT, live on DAZN at the Poliforum Benito Juárez in Cancún, Mexico.

Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) shoved the unbeaten Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) for no apparent reason other than to show him that he means business on Saturday. Zepeda doesn’t speak English and was just wordlessly grinning during the face-off.
The former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer was trying to intimidate or get Zepeda agitated. It didn’t seem to work. Zepeda just kept smiling, showing that he was enjoying the theatrics that the American brought to the weigh-in.

Both fighters looked like they were already rehydrated. Neither guy appeared drained, and that’s a sign that they’re true lightweights rather than weight bullies. We got a lot of those in the 135-lb division, guys who look like they rehydrate to the 160s after weighing in and have no business competing in the division other than to take advantage of smaller fighters.
Zepeda beat Farmer by a 10-round split decision on November 16th last year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Tevin knocked Zepeda down in the fourth round and fought well despite being outworked in many of the rounds. In the championship rounds, Zepeda appeared to pull it out by landing a lot of hard body shots that forced Farmer to hold.
Williams’ promoters at Golden Boy chose to pull the trigger on the rematch with Farmer. They could have let Zepeda move on to challenge for a world title, but they wanted to run it back. We’ll see on Saturday if they made the right decision by taking the rematch. If Zepeda loses the fight, promoter Oscar De La Hoya will regret making the rematch.
