William Scull Returns January 31 in Denmark—Out to Prove He Beat Canelo the First Time

William Scull will be back in action against super middleweight contender Jacob Bank on January 31, 2026, at the Sydbank Arena, Kolding, in Denmark.

It’s the first fight back for the former IBF 168-b champion Scull (23-1, 9 KOs) since his first career defeat against Canelo Alvarez on May 3, 2025, in Riyadh. That fight was much closer than the scores handed down by two of the judges. The scores were 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109.

He Beat Canelo—Just Ask Him

In terms of power, speed, and offensive weaponry, the Cuban Scull looked more impressive than what Terence Crawford showed in his narrow 12-round unanimous decision win over Canelo on September 13th. Scull believes he did enough to deserve the decision against Canelo, but the judges didn’t give him the A-side treatment that Crawford received.

The Diamond Still Rough

Scull showed far more power, speed, and technical ability than Bud Crawford did. He looked like a diamond in the rough, only needing to make one small tweak in his game to have beaten Alvarez that night. Scull was more physically gifted than Crawford and more suited to the 168-lb division.

Where Scull failed was his decision to move constantly rather than stand his ground, using his speedy combination punching to get the better of Alvarez. When Scull stopped and fought, he was getting the better of Canelo in virtually every exchange. That was clearly one of the reasons why the Mexican star was reluctant to cut off the ring to force the highly mobile to mix it up with him.

Bank: The Danish Test

Scull is ranked #9 IBF at 168, and needs to defeat the 24-year-old Dane Bank to get pushed up in the rankings a little closer to getting the bigger fights. Bank is ranked #4 WBO #12 WBC, and is coming off a fifth-round knockout win over former WBA 168-lb champion Tyron Zeuge on September 13, 2025, in Denmark.

“The loss to Canelo was an experience that made me stronger. I learned a lot, and now I’m back, more focused and determined than ever,” said William Scull, reflecting on his loss to Canelo Alvarez earlier this year on May 3rd.

“Jacob Bank is a young, hungry boxer, but I’ll show him that experience and class make the difference.”
