David Price believes the veteran heavyweight Derek Chisora will fight Francis Ngannou in his next fight in Saudi Arabia after defeating Otto Wallin by a 12-round unanimous decision last Saturday night in Manchester, England.
Ngannou (0-2) would be dangerous for a fighter like Chisora because he hits so hard, and feasts on slow plodders. Chisora would be a sitting duck against Ngannou.
Price also mentioned Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker as possibilities for Chisora. Parker already beat Derek twice, and it would be a huge step backward for the New Zealander to go from fighting world-class opposition like Daniel Dubois to fighting a low-level guy like Chisora. Most of the top 15 contenders would beat Chisora. His team picked the weakest in terms of power in Wallin to improve his chances of winning. Even a bottom feeder like Jemaine Franklin would have been too much for Chisora.
There’s zero chance Derek will use his IBF mandatory spot, which he earned last night, to challenge Dubois because that would be a 100% slaughter. Dubois would knock Chisora out in the first round, and there would be a tremendous backlash from fans who felt ripped off by the event organizers.
You can’t put Chisora in with a good heavyweight because he’ll be massacred, and that’s bad for the promoters who put on the event and a terrible look for the sport. Chisora got beat up as it is last night against the carefully picked Otto Wallin. This guy was well-vetted before this fight.
I don’t think Parker would want to be seen taking this fight unless he was offered loads of money and coming off a knockout loss to Dubois. It would be a hard sell because Parker already beat Chisora twice, and it seems pointless for them to fight a third time.
The 41-year-old Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) said after the fight that he deserves a “blockbuster” for his 50th fight, mentioning Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk as his two choices. However, those guys will not fight a ham & egger like Chisora for obvious reasons.
Ngannou (0-2) would be the ideal opponent for Chisora if he can get him because the fight would create interest, and he would have a chance of winning if he doesn’t get hit by one of the big shots from the 38-year-old.
“I reckon it’ll be Francis Ngannou in Saudi. That’s what he reckons,” said David Price to Ring Magazine about who he believes Derek Chisora will fight next for fight #50 following his win over Otto Wallin last Saturday night. “Whoever he fights, it’ll make a great contest style-wise.
Price adds that he felt that the knockdowns that Chisora scored in the Wallin fight looked more like him being off balance, which is what Otto was saying. He said his feet got tangled. I watched the fight and felt that both knockdowns were bogus, badly blown calls by the referee. Those were NOT knockdowns. Price says it would have been a draw if you take the two knockdowns away.
The scores were 114-112, 116-110 and 117-109. I had Wallin winning the fight 7-5. I didn’t count the two knockdowns because they were slips.
