Why is there no Premier League lunchtime kick-off this weekend?

PREMIER LEAGUE lovers are used to adding a lunchtime kick-off to their Saturday diet – but they’ll have to go without it this weekend.

Friday night’s live top-flight fixture saw Leeds pile further misery on West Ham with a 2-1 win at Elland Road.

Ruben Amorim’s rejuvenated Manchester United side will be on the box once again as they welcome Brighton to Old Trafford.

And champions Liverpool are looking to get back to winning ways in the Prem after suffering a shock defeat to United last weekend, when they face Brentford live on television.

But there is a rare gap in the schedule on Saturday lunchtime, and SunSport can explain the reason why.

Why is there no Premier League lunchtime kick-off this weekend?

FIFA agreed with player unions this summer that players would receive at least a 72-hour rest period between kick-offs.

And while this was no problem for Brentford, Liverpool’s midweek Champions League commitments have forced this game to be played no earlier than 8pm.

The Reds battled back from behind to thrash German giants Eintracht Frankfurt and end their four-match losing run.

Goals from former Frankfurt striker, Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai helped Liverpool get the job done in Germany.

What other fixtures are available to watch at lunchtime?

Sky Sports have seven EFL games for fans to sink their teeth into at 12:30pm with the Championship match between Ipswich and West Brom serving as the featured game.

And the remaining fixtures below will be shown on Sky Sports+:

  • Coventry vs Watford
  • Portsmouth vs Stoke
  • Bolton vs Cardiff
  • Mansfield vs Wigan
  • Cheltenham vs Walsall
  • Fleetwood vs Accrington Stanley
