Why are there numbers next to players’ names on BBC’s Wimbledon 2025 score box?

WIMBLEDON is back for another year of thrilling tennis action from SW19!

The biggest tennis tournament in the world is ready to take over for two weeks.

Carlos Alcaraz is chasing a third consecutive Wimbledon title, and will be doing so as the number two seed in the tournament.

Stars such as Coco Gauff and Arnya Sabalenka are vying for a first title a the famous tournament this year.

Eagle eyed viewers may have spotted the change in on-screen score box’s this year.

SunSport can reveal what the numbers next to a players name mean.

Why are there numbers next to players names on BBC?

On the BBC coverage of Wimbledon, there are a handful of numbers next to player names.

The first number – which not everyone has – is the player seeding.

For example, Carlos Alcaraz is second seed, so his name appears as “Alcaraz 2” during matches.

The two bold numbers in a green box are how many games a player has won in a set, and when a player has won a set these become purple, with a new set of green numbers next to it.

The white box with purple numbers in next to the green box is the score in a game, for example 15-40 in purple.
