The 2024 NFL trade deadline is approaching.

Typically, the trade deadline in the NFL is slow, but there is a glimmer of hope for this year.

Teams have already been uncharacteristically active this year in trading players. On the one hand, this could mean that the actual trade deadline is quiet once again, but it also could mean that a new leaf is turning over in the NFL and we see even more in-season trades going down.

When should you expect the transactions to be complete? Here is all the info you need for this year’s NFL trade deadline.

Can NFL teams trade after the deadline?

Some sports have stipulations where deals can be made after the deadline if they meet certain qualifications. For example, the MLB has a trade deadline, but if all players involved are minor league players, deals have a larger window to get done.

The NFL is strict. The trade deadline is the deadline. Any deal must be agreed upon and submitted by the league office by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. They can be reported after 4 p.m. ET by media members, but they have to be sent to the league office by that deadline.

The trade window will then be closed until March 12, 2025, when the new league year trading window opens. Teams can agree to deals in principle in the offseason, but nothing can become official until mid-March.
