STRUGGLING West Ham may make a late swoop for England Under-21 centre-back Charlie Cresswell.
Cresswell’s no-nonsense style is what Graham Potter’s side need after a weak start to the campaign and they are making firm inquiries at Toulouse.
The French side want £13million and bonuses for the 23-year-old and the Hammers may come up with the money with the transfer window snapping shut tomorrow.
West Ham have also looked at Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Cresswell’s Young Lions partner at the back, currently plying his trade at Southampton.
However Harwood-Bellis, who is engaged to Roy Keane’s daughter Leah, is valued at more than £20m.
An offer from Portuguese club Porto was turned down when it fell just short of this mark.
Cresswell was in action for Toulouse against European champions Paris Saint-Germain last night.
Carles Martinez Novell’s side went into the match having won their opening Ligue 1 matches without conceding a goal.
But they were trounced 6-3 on their own patch by a rampant PSG side.
Although Cresswell did manage to get himself on the scoresheet during the first half.
The towering defender began his career at Leeds.
After only 14 appearances for the Whites either side of a loan spell at Millwall, Cresswell signed for French side Toulouse in 2024.
Former Portsmouth loanee Rasmus Nicolaisen made his first Toulouse start in 11 months last night having recovered from a serious ankle injury.
Nicolaisen stepped in for Jaydee Canvot, who has agreed to join Crystal Palace.
