WBO Places ‘Boots’ Ennis at #4 in 154-lb Rankings: A Direct Path to the WBO Title

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis has been placed at the #4 spot at 154 with his move up in weight from 154. Ennis will reportedly be taking two tune-up fights to acclimate himself to the junior middleweight division.

Tune-up Opponent Pool

  • Israil Madrimov
  • Serhii Bohachuk
  • Jesus Ramos
  • Charles Conwell

Boots’ WBO #4 Ranking

Picking two of those fighters for Ennis’ next couple of fights would be ideal to prepare him to challenge Vergil Ortiz Jr. for his WBC 154-lb title in 2026. Boots is going to need to fight top-tier contenders to adapt to this division, which is filled with punchers and highly skilled technicians.

The new rankings put the former IBF and WBA welterweight champion ‘Boots’ (34-0, 30 KOs) in line to pursue the WBO junior middleweight title being fought for this Saturday between Xander Zayas and Jorge Garcia Perez.

Zayas’ promoters at Top Rank won’t be happy with the news of the World Boxing Organization placing Jaron Ennis at #4 in their rankings at 154. Top Rank is trying to turn the 22-year-old Xander into an East Coast star in the New York area. They can’t do that if ‘Boots’ is on a collision course to rip that WBO title from him if he captures it this Saturday night against Jorge Garcia. Ennis would be too much for either of these fighters.

Easiest Belt for Boots

The way ‘Boots’ looked in his last fight, destroying WBA welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis in six rounds on April 12th, he’d make easy work of the winner of the Zayas vs. Garcia to snatch the WBO 154-lb title.

The WBO is the easiest belt for Boots to win because he’s likely to be avoided by WBC champion Sebastian Fundora. WBA champion Terence Crawford still hasn’t vacated his title despite moving up to 168 to challenge Canelo Alvarez for his four titles. WBA interim champion Yoenis Tellez will be elevated to the full champion status.
