Wayne Rooney launches blistering attack on ‘arrogant’ Mo Salah for claiming Liverpool have ‘thrown him under the bus’

WAYNE ROONEY has ripped into Mo Salah after his shock Liverpool rant, claiming the “arrogant” star is “destroying his legacy” at Anfield.

Salah stunned Liverpool by giving a bombshell interview accusing the club of “throwing him under the bus” after being benched by Arne Slot for three games in a row.

In a stunning outburst after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds, the Egyptian said: “It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling.

“I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.

“It is not acceptable for me. I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t get it.”

He also claimed Liverpool had broken promises to him since he signed a new deal with the club in April.

But Rooney launched an attack on the 33-year-old and claimed it was in fact Salah who had thrown Liverpool under the bus.

Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, he said: “[Salah] is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool. It would be sad for him to throw it all away. He’s gone about it all wrong.

“Time catches up with all of us, and this season he hasn’t looked as his best, at his sharpest. You want to see him roll his sleeves up and say ‘ok then, I’ll show you’.

“To have the arrogance to say he doesn’t have to earn his place because he has already earned his place, you need to be at your best every week to try and stay in the team.

“If I was one of his teammates, I wouldn’t be happy at all with what he said because this is where Liverpool need him most. If anything, he has thrown Liverpool under the bus with his words.

“He’s been absolutely incredible for Liverpool, but this was disrespectful to his teammates, manager and fans.”

Salah was Liverpool’s go-to man last season as he netted 29 Premier League goals to guide the Reds to the title.

There was speculation he could depart this summer but he signed a new deal in April – though he’s only managed four goals in this campaign since.

Rooney believes Salah is now bringing a “negative energy” to the team and urged Slot to continue dropping him over his attitude.

The Manchester United legend added: “I would imagine he will be very quiet around the training ground and that will bring a negative energy in itself to the new players Arne has bedded in.

“I am sure over the next couple of years he will regret saying what he has.

“Arne Slot has to show his authority and pull him in and say ‘you are not travelling with the team, what you said is not acceptable’.

“Take yourself off to Afcon and let everything calm down. If I was him there would be no way he would be in the team.”

Salah suggested Liverpool’s next home game against Brighton could be his last game for the club before he flies out for AFCON with Egypt.
