WAYNE ROONEY reckons Ruben Amorim would get “absolutely slaughtered” if he pulled a stunt like Arne Slot did on Tuesday night.
Liverpool boss Slot experimented with midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back and defender Jeremie Frimpong on the right wing.
The end result was a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray – three days after a shock loss to Crystal Palace.
Slot has credit in the bank after leading Liverpool to the Premier League title last season.
That, according to Rooney, is the only reason he’s let off the hook when bold decisions backfire.
And under-pressure United boss Amorim does not have that same luxury.
Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show: “When you win the league like Arne Slot did with Liverpool last season, sometimes some of the decisions you make get overlooked.
“I think his decision to play a midfield player at right-back and a right-back at right-wing, for instance, if that was Amorim at Manchester United, he’d get absolutely slaughtered.”
Liverpool were pegged back by a Victor Osimhen penalty in the first half and couldn’t claw themselves level.
Two straight dodgy performances have lumped extra pressure on Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.
Rooney added: “I thought they were really poor [against Galatasaray].
“The worry for me would be, they were losing the game and it looked like, even with still quite a bit of time left to go, [Slot] just put every attacking player on the pitch and said, ‘go and figure it out’.
“It could have got a lot worse for Liverpool because of the amount of times they gave the ball away at the back, lost it and got broke on, and Alisson getting injured.”
