The King of New York — Knicks Finals MVP Jalen Brunson — hosted the season 53 premiere of Saturday Night Live, and the laid-back Brunson showed off some of his comedic chops.
Of course some of Brunson’s teammates were there — Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Brunson’s usual comedic foil, Josh Hart — and they were part of the monologue.
My personal favorite Brunson skit of the night was a High School Musical take-off. Brunson is the new kid in the school and is going to get pushed away from the basketball team until Jeremy Culhane’s Jake invites him in — and then Brunson’s skills show Jake up. So Jake says he wants to focus on theater, but Brunson bests him at that, too — and takes his girl.
Brunson also was part of a funny office skit where he can’t sink a wadded-up wrapper in the trash can, but will not quit and keeps coming up with excuses why there is one more second on the clock. Then he reveals he’s Jalen Brunson.
