The Minnesota Vikings have been rumored to have an interest in future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers, perhaps entering his final season in the NFL, showed with the New York Jets that he still has something left in the tank.
However, for the Vikings, J.J. McCarthy eventually needs to get a chance. After selecting him No. 10 overall in 2024, wasting that pick, and most importantly, a rookie contract, wouldn’t be the best decision.
According to Tom Pelissero, that’s exactly what the Vikings are doing. The team is out on Rodgers, and McCarthy will be the quarterback.
“The Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say. The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1,” Pelissero wrote.

After the Vikings’ best regular season in a very long time, the future looks bright. McCarthy will have pressure on him, as Minnesota is now expected to win.
Having Rodgers could’ve potentially put them in a better position to win now, but even that’s arguable. At this stage of his career, it’s a bit uncertain what type of Rodgers any team will get.
Rodgers will now have to find a new landing spot, with the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers as the two notable teams looking for a quarterback. The Steelers could be a contender with Rodgers, but the Giants sneakily have a decent roster, and could be a good quarterback away from competing.
