Parker was originally scheduled to challenge the reigning IBF heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois. That did not happen. Instead Dubois pulled out due to illness just days before the scheduled showdown. On extremely short notice, Martin Bakole stepped up as a last minute replacement, where he missed the weigh-in because he was still being flown to the venue. Parker weighed in at a career high 267, and Bakole reportedly weighed in at a career high of his own, 310 pounds.

The fight did not last especially long, but it was interesting while it lasted. Bakole seemed to have the right idea, but without proper training and preparation, he was no match for a very well prepared Parker on short notice. Parker landed a big right on top of Bakole’s head that dropped him in round 2, and Bakole’s corner stopped the fight.

For Parker that is now 6 victories in a row since he was knocked out by Juggernaut Joe Joyce. During that winning streak, the last 3 wins have been especially notable. First Parker won a 12 round unanimous decision against former long reigning WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. After that Parker won a 12 round majority decision against Zhilei Zhang, overcoming adversity in the process, rising from 2 knockdowns to earn the victory. Now Parker has the stoppage win against late replacement Bakole, which even taken in context, still has Parker on quite a roll.
