Week 10 is a great week for the running back position, both in fantasy football and the actual NFL. The best running back in football, Christian McCaffrey, is set to make his return after hitting injured reserve ahead of Week 2. His return to the field has been long awaited by fantasy managers and 49ers fans alike.

McCaffrey isn’t the only running back who people will be excited to see on the field this week. Several studs like Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, and Bijan Robinson will all be in action in Week 10. If you roster anyone from that trio, you’re likely quite thrilled to have them in your lineup.

Unfortunately, not everyone is able to have certified studs in their lineup. Some managers are forced to make decisions between fringe RB2 options every week. If your roster fits that description, be sure to use our weekly running back rankings to help with difficult lineup choices.

Who are the best fantasy RBs for Week 10?

Derrick Henry leads the entire NFL in touchdowns with 11. He’s coming off another dominant performance, running for 106 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. He even added another 27 yards on a reception. While the Bengals’ defense looked good against the Raiders, this is a whole other animal — and not one for fantasy managers to be concerned about.

Saquon Barkley continues to dominate in the running game. His talent was always evident with the Giants, but behind a much-superior offensive line, he’s finally starting to reach his ceiling. Facing a banged up Cowboys squad next, perhaps more plays like this one could be on display this week as well.

Breece Hall had a solid-yet-unspectacular game against the Texans in Week 9, but his usage continues to be elite as he saw 15 carries to Braelon Allen’s four. He hauled in two catches for 11 yards, and that’s where we’d like to see more production — in the passing game. With the Cardinals up next, the Jets should lean on Hall to pace the offense.

Who are the RBs on byes in Week 10?

Cleveland Browns: Nick Chubb continues to look healthy since his return from last year’s devastating knee injury the last few weeks, but after being out for so long, this bye probably comes at a great time for him. He definitely has not looked like his old explosive self, which was to be expected after such a long layoff and such a tough recovery, but the rest of the offense is a mess as well. Hopefully the entire unit can re-set and get healthier during the bye week and come out strong against the Saints in Week 11.

Las Vegas Raiders: Speaking of offensive units that have been struggling, the Raiders also get the week off. Alexander Mattison is still the RB1 in this offense, but Zamir White is seeing more carries again, and he even converted a goal line carry, while Mattison did not. Adding further murkiness, Abdullah has been mixing in as well, especially on passing downs. The Raiders get the Dolphins coming out of the bye week, but this is a backfield to avoid if at all possible.

Green Bay Packers: Josh Jacobs is one of the true bell cow running backs in the league, and after a tough NFC North clash against the Lions, he’ll get to rest up before returning for another NFC North clash – this time against the Bears. The Bears boast some stingy corners, so offenses will often rely on the run against Chicago, which could be a great situation for Jacobs managers in Week 11.

Seattle Seahawks: Kenneth Walker has turned into one of the elite fantasy running backs this year with his added work in the passing game. Like the Packers, the Seahawks are coming off a tough divisional matchup against the Rams and then get the 49ers in another NFC West showdown in Week 11. Walker will leave a big hole to fill in Week 10, but look for him to continue his heavy usage when he returns.

Who are the best fantasy RB waiver pickups for Week 10?

At this stage of the season, it’s pretty slim pickings out on the waiver wire. Ray Davis is the best option out there as he continues to flash explosiveness in limited opportunities. Davis had only 20 yards on four carries, but he also added 70 yards and a touchdown on just two catches. It’s hard to bank on a safe floor in terms of volume, but given his explosivity there is some stand-alone value, and he’s one of the premier backups to roster. With the Colts up next, the Bills could be in a positive game script for much of the game, which would bode well for the running game.

Who are the best fantasy RB sleepers for Week 10?

Bucky Irving is the preferred running back to roster out of this Tampa Bay backfield, but given all of the injuries in the passing game, Rachaad White still has plenty of value. With so few receiving options to rely upon, White’s passing game usage continues to be substantial, which is all you can ask for with a running back in fantasy. And he still has a role in the running game as well, as head coach Todd Bowles has said he’ll go with a hot-hand approach. With the 49ers up next, Tampa will likely have to push it in the passing game to keep pace, so White could be in line for a nice game.

While the Commanders’ defense is much-improved from the beginning of the season, this unit can still be run on, and that’s exactly what the Steelers love to do. Najee Harris should see plenty of carries in this one. But there should still be plenty of work for Jaylen Warren to be a productive back for fantasy purposes as well. Warren can be use din the passing game as well, which gives him more outs to get to a productive day.

What are the biggest RB injuries for Week 10?

The Week 9 bye couldn’t have come at a better time for the 49ers’ running back room. We’re expecting both Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason to return healthy this week against the Buccaneers. Since this is McCaffrey’s debut, we’re not expecting a full complement of snaps.

Brian Robinson was a surprise inactive in Week 9 with a hamstring injury. The injury was known, but it was thought he’d be able to play through it. Given the situation, we’re leaving him unranked until we hear more. Austin Ekeler should see increased usage again if Robinson has to sit again.

Zack Moss sat out Week 9 with a neck injury, and we later learned that the injury is of the season-ending variety. The Bengals went out and traded for Khalil Herbert from the Bears to be Chase Brown’s backup. While Brown should be the RB1 in this backfield, Herbert has enough talent to eat into that usage once he gets acclimated to the team.

Tyjae Spears missed another game in Week 9 with a hamstring injury. One would think he’s getting closer to a return, but until we get some positive updates, we’re leaving him unranked. Tony Pollard continues to flourish with the backfield all to himself.
