Under-fire Ruben Amorim admits he faces SACK at Man Utd if results don’t improve

RUBEN AMORIM admits his position as Manchester United boss will become “impossible” unless he starts winning soon.

The under-pressure Portuguese coach faces a crunch home clash against newly-promoted Sunderland with the Red Devils languishing 14th in the Prem, having lost three of their six fixtures this season.

United sources insist Amorim has their backing and no replacement is lined up.

But they are monitoring potential successors for the 40-year-old, who has won just nine league games in his 11-month tenure.

Asked if he had received any assurances from his bosses, Amorim said: “I am not concerned about that and nobody here is naive.

“We understand we need results to continue the project.

“We will reach a point that is impossible for everyone because this is a very big club with a lot of sponsors, with two owners.

“So it is hard. You can’t run away from the results.”

After last weekend’s 3-1 humbling at Brentford, Amorim has picked up just 34 points from 33 games in charge of United.

But the ex-Sporting boss insisted his future is “a decision of the board” which suggests he will not jump before he is pushed.

Now Amorim wants his team to do their talking on the pitch with a much-needed win before the October international window — often a treacherous time for under-fire managers.

And he has no intention of deviating from his trusted 3-4-3 system.

Amorim said: “It’s not the time to say, it is the time to show.

“I want to see my team winning or losing, playing the same way and we are not doing that.

“My biggest problem is for my players to believe you guys when you say our problem is the system. I get crazy about that.

“I can point to the way we play different systems.

“We need to play the same way, with the same power, the same intensity, the same focus.

“If we do that, the system doesn’t matter.

“You fear losing your job when you have to pay the bills. I don’t have that feeling. I just want to continue this.

“Not winning games or failing hurts me most.”

United’s players will wear black armbands and hold a minute’s silence before the game to honour the victims of this week’s synagogue attack in Manchester.
