UFL offers plenty of kicker options for Ravens to sign as competition for Tyler Loop

The Baltimore Ravens are embarking on a new era at the kicker position in 2025.

After several sexual misconduct allegations against long-time kicker Justin Tucker, the Ravens decided to part ways with the veteran earlier this offseason.

The writing was on the wall that would happen when the team drafted kicker Tyler Loop in the 2025 NFL draft. Now, Loop is the favorite to land the job in a competition against fellow rookie and UDFA John Hoyland.

The problem with that competition is that both players are unproven and there’s no guarantee either one will pan out. Loop in particular has had mixed results this offseason, as he’s had good days but has also struggled from 50-plus yards.

Luckily, there are still some options out there to add to the room, and most of the better ones come from the UFL, which ended its season on Saturday with the DC Defenders crushing the Michigan Panthers in the championship game.

There are five kickers in total who the Ravens should have their eye on. All five of these kickers have not only shown accuracy, but the ability to make kicks from distance.

Those fives kickers are the Birmingham Stallions’ Harrison Mevis, the St. Louis Battlehawks’ Rodrigo Blankenship, the Memphis Showboats’ Matt Coghlin, the Arlington Renegades’ Lucas Havrisik and the Houston Roughnecks’ Chris Blewitt.

The handful of kickers finished No. 1 through No. 5 in field goal percentage in that order, and each made kicks from 50-plus yards. Here’s a rundown of their respective showings from 2025.

Mevis: 20-21 FG (95%, long 54).

Blankenship: 21-22 FG (95%, long 56)

Coghlin: 16-18 FG (89%, long 52)

Havrisik: 22-25 FG (88%, long 54)

Blewitt: 13-15 FG (87%, long 51)

The most notable name of that group is no doubt Blankenship, who was a college star before kicking for two teams over three years in the NFL. Both Havrisik and Blewitt also had stints in the league.

After we saw the incredible story of Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates, who went from the Panthers to the Lions and had a ton of success in 2024, NFL teams are likely going to be targeting these kickers now that the UFL campaign is over.

The Ravens should definitely hop on that train and bring in one of them in order to offer more competition for their rookie kickers.
