Tyson Fury’s Staggering Comeback Cost: Why a 0 Million Payday is Considered Essential to Lure the Wealthy Fighter Out of Retirement for Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury remains the #1 marketable heavyweight and can make a fortune if he comes out of his brief five-month retirement to fight Anthony Joshua. He’s so rich already, with an estimated fortune of $160 million, that it may require an absurd amount of money to bring him back. It doesn’t look like he’s got the ambition or the will to face AJ and risk being humiliated.

No Ambition for Joshua?

Unfortunately, there’s a high chance that Fury would be knocked cold by Joshua because there’s no way he could hold him off. He’s too slow, flabby, and hittable now. We saw that in his recent defeat against Oleksandr Usyk. The reaction to punches was gone.

Fury’s last two performances against Oleksandr Usyk, both defeats, showed that he’s got nothing left of his physical skills. The movement that he once had is gone, and he looks ridiculous now, perched against the ropes, using head movement to try and dodge shots.

‘The Gyspy King’ looked like a caricature of his former self in his rematch with Usyk last December, losing a 12-round decision.

Fury’s Market Value Remains

“#1 fighter in recess. Yeah, about marketing and commercial values largely. We’ve seen that with Manny Pacquiao coming back on July 19th. That’s exactly the same scenario, and that’s four years removed,” said Gareth A. Davies to Boxing Social’s YouTube channel about Tyson Fury’s popularity, allowing him to get an immediate title shot when or if he does come out of retirement.

Retirement Hurting Fury’s Appeal

Obviously, the longer Fury stays out of the ring, the less interest fans will have in seeing him come back. If the old ‘Gypsy King’ wants to get $100 million payday fighting Anthony Joshua, he’s going to need to fight soon because that money won’t be there in a couple of years. The Saudis would be interested in financing that fight now, but it’s questionable if they would in three to four years’ time.

“So, we might get a 40-year-old Tyson Fury coming back. At what point does that voucher run out, that he’s the #1 fighter in recess? The truth is, he can come back in a year’s time and still be installed as someone who can fight for a world title.”
