Tyson Fury’s Call for Moses Itauma to ‘Wreck’ Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury’s Call for Moses Itauma to ‘Wreck’ Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury says he believes that Moses Itauma will “wreck” undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and any of the older, well-known fighters in the division. The retired former two-time champion Fury says the 20-year-old Itaum would beat Usyk because it’s a “young man vs. an old man.”

Listening to Fury talk, one can’t help but think he’s still bitter about losing to Usyk twice. So, his prediction of a dire ending for him against the unproven prospect Itauma is one way for ‘The Gypsy King’ to get a minor victory over his conqueror.

The risk of fighting Usyk

Interestingly, Fury fails to mention that Usyk knocked out the then-25-year-old Daniel Dubois in their first fight in 2023, and then did it again in their rematch in 2025. ‘Dynamite’ Dubois was 27.

If Itauma’s promoters, Queensberry, want to toss him in with Usyk in a risky gamble before the end of the year, they could live to regret their decision. Usyk could expose Itauma as a fake just as he did with Dubois, ruining his marketability.

It would be wiser for Queensberry to continue playing it safe with Itauma. He’s fought no one during his short pro and brief 20-fight amateur career to prepare him for a fighter like Usyk.

“I keep getting asked about young Moses Itauma fighting Oleksandr Usyk and fighting other big names. In my opinion, he’s [Itauma] not someone that doesn’t know boxing.

“He’s someone that has been there and won every single belt and everything there is to win in boxing and done very well,” said Tyson Fury on social media, giving his two cents on a potential fight between undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and the still unproven prospect/contender Moses Itauma.

“Boxing is a young man’s game, like I told Wladimir Klitschko when he was 37 [Correction: Wladimir was 39 and 8 months when he fought Fury in 2015]. It’s a young man’s game. It waits for nobody. Moses Itauma would wreck all the old men in the division: Usyk, AJ, [Jarrell] Miller. Whoever there is that’s old, [Zhilei] Zhang, Luis Ortiz

“All these big names of the past are a spent force. Even the world champion now that took my belts and given to, Moses will wreck him because it’s a young man vs. an old man. An old man can’t mess with a young man,” said Fury.

How Itauma’s Hype Was Manufactured

Fury seems sold on Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) after watching him destroy the old, painfully slow, gunshy Dillian Whyte in one round last Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

It was the perfect matchmaking on Queensberry’s part to pick the 37-year-old Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) as the opponent for Itauma to create the pseudo mystique of invincibility.

Fans have naively bought into it, believing that Itauma is the next superstar heavyweight of boxing. Like Fury, they’ve drunk the Kool-Aid and failed to take note of how poor Dillian had looked in six of his last eight fights dating back to 2019.

You have to follow the sport closely to know that Whyte had looked fragile since his fight with Oscar Rivas six years ago. ‘The Body Snatcher’ was dropped in the ninth round and was hurt in the twelfth round as well.
