When it comes to game-breaking ability, there might be no better offensive weapon in football than Miami Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill. While guys like Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are constantly putting up big games, Hill’s speed is something you can’t teach and allows him to make big plays out of nothing. However, without Tua Tagovailoa during a long stretch this past season, it was apparent that Hill can’t perform with just anybody under center.
In a recent post to his Snapchat story, Hill listed his top five quarterbacks in the NFL in no order, with those being Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Joe Burrow. While there’s nothing wrong with that list without context, the problem arises when you realize he left off his own quarterback: Tua Tagovailoa. Again, Tua probably isn’t a top-five quarterback in the NFL, but not getting that nod from your top receiver is a low blow.
Appearing on ESPN, NFL reporter Jeff Darlington said that Hill’s behavior has become “a little bit tiresome” to some people due to his antics as of late. Whether it has been cryptic messages about his desire to stay with the Dolphins or posting a Snapchat story saying he doesn’t think his own quarterback is one of the best five in the league, Hill isn’t doing himself any justice.
If the desire for Hill is to play for any one of those five quarterbacks he listed, the odds of that happening seem low. First and foremost, Mayfield and Burrow don’t need any more weapons themselves with great receiving rooms alongside them. Additionally, a reunion in Kansas City with Mahomes seems unlikely, and neither Jackson’s nor Allen’s teams have much cap space to play with.
Even though Hill isn’t far removed from his 2023 campaign, where he led the league in yards with 1,779 and touchdowns with 13, it’s clear that regression is on the way for the Dolphins star. Factor in his teammate Jalen Ramsey also seeking a trade, and the Dolphins probably will get more back for Ramsey than Hill, given his circumstances.
Hill has two years remaining on his three-year, $90 million contract, and the Dolphins may want to see if they can get some better production from Hill to start the season before looking for a trade for him.
