49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams and his wife, Sondra Williams, shared sad news on Sunday, revealing that that their son, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr., was stillborn on November 24.
Sondra Williams shared a social media post detailing the family’s loss, which also said that Trenton’s twin was lost earlier in Williams’ pregnancy.
Trent Williams, a 14-year veteran that’s spent time in both Washington and San Fransisco, hasn’t played since Week 11, and is currently listed as out with an ankle injury.
Here’s what the Williams family shared about their recent loss via Instagram.
Trent Williams’ wife, Sonda, announces death of newborn son
Trent’s wife, Sondra, shared an Instagram post including pictures of her son and his sonogram images after he was born lifeless on November 24.
“It’s been extremely hard trying to process the saddest hello and goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure. Last Sunday night on 11/24/24; I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz 18.5 in long little body at 11:38pm. At only 35 weeks, your impactful and quick arrival didn’t even give mommy time to get an epidural,” she wrote. “As much as I tried to prepare myself for our meeting, I wasn’t prepared nor would I ever be.”
Her post explained that her son’s twin was lost earlier in the pregnancy, and that Trenton had been diagnosed with Trisomy 13, a rare genetic condition that results from an extra copy of chromosome 13 attaching to a pair of chromosomes, per Cleveland Clinic.
“I can’t even begin to describe how I felt leaving the hospital without you,” Sondra Williams wrote. “Nor how it feels being home celebrating Thanksgiving without my baby in my arms. My heart is broken and my arms are empty. But I know you’ll always be near watching over me and your sisters. And for that, my heart smiles with gratitude.”
Trent Williams, who has been dealing with an ankle injury, didn’t practice at all last week ahead of the 49ers’ matchup with the Bills on Sunday night.
49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward also recently lost his young daughter, as Ward announced in October that Amani Joy, who was 23 months old, died after being born prematurely with Down syndrome and battling heart problems since then.
Bills show support for Charvarius Ward’s charity in Week 13
As the 49ers faced the Bills in Week 13, Buffalo fans showed support for Ward as his family dealt with his daughter’s recent passing.
Bills fans used social media to raise awareness for Ward’s charity, “Change with Charvarius,” which is dedicated to “empowering individuals with Down syndrome and their families through providing advocacy, education and research.”
A few weeks ago, @49ers CB Charvarius Ward tragically lost his 1-year-old daughter.
I saw someone earlier this week suggest #BillsMafia donate to his charity. Great idea if you are so inclined: https://t.co/wGly9fQnu6 https://t.co/aHdvXYekVO
