Some NFL fans tried to predict the future ahead of Super Bowl 59, envisioning another on-field embrace between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift in the event the Chiefs completed a three-peat. Would Kelce propose? Would he announce his retirement?

Ultimately, that moment never came. It didn’t come close. The Chiefs suffered a 40-22 loss, trailing by as much as 34 in a blowout defeat unlike anything Patrick Mahomes endured during the regular season.

Kelce, meanwhile, had a quiet game with 39 yards on four catches. He was held without a catch in the first half, which meant pans to Swift in the Caesars Superdome crowd were rare on the Fox broadcast.

Kelce wasn’t seen walking out of the Superdome with Swift after the Chiefs’ loss, instead leaving the building on his own after a quiet meeting with the media.

Swift, meanwhile, received a rocky reception from a pro-Eagles crowd in New Orleans. Once spotted wearing an Eagles sweatshirt, Swift understandably shifted her allegiance to the Chiefs when she started dating Kelce. That didn’t mean Philadelphia fans had to take it lightly, though.

For Kelce, a retirement decision is on the table. While he still played at a high level for much of 2024, it wasn’t the level he was so accustomed to at the height of his career. With Swift and endless opportunities awaiting him the second he does call it a career, does he pass on going through another grueling season?

At the same time, a hunger for more Super Bowl wins could lure Kelce back. No one wants to go out with a loss as painful as Sunday’s, and the Chiefs seemingly have a chance to climb the mountaintop as long as Mahomes is under center. 

If he does return, perhaps more meaningful post-game moments with Swift await.

According to an insider at Page Six, Swift has been consoling Kelce after the loss. The tight end took the loss very hard, but Swift “couldn’t be more proud of him regardless of the outcome.”

We have no idea if Kelce had planned to propose to Swift if the Chiefs won, but given the nature of the outcome, everyone’s dreams were dashed for a postgame question-popping. 

Going into the game, plenty were talking about the possibility of a proposal, with some sportsbooks even offering up odds on whether it would happen.

Unfortunately, bettors were not able to cash that +800 “YES” ticket, as the Eagles quickly put to bed a fairytale ending for America’s most talked-about couple.
