West Ham close in on highly-rated French midfielder

WEST HAM have launched a bid for Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa.

The Hammers are desperate to add two midfield recruits before the window closes.

Magassa, 21, is a holding midfielder who made 21 appearances in Ligue 1 last season and seven in the Champions League.

Graham Potter has made it clear he wants to add youth and energy to his midfield.

Edson Alvarez is joining Turkish side Fenerbache on loan with the option to buy, which is freeing up funds for Potter to make additions.

Fenerbache will pay a small loan fee but also cover all of Alvarez’s wages, which are north of £100,000-a-week.

West Ham have struggled to raise money through sales since Mohammed Kudus’ move to Tottenham.

But clearing wages can also be a big help. Emerson Palmieri could still leave this window, with Besiktas having shown interest.

The former Chelsea man is thought to earn around £90,000-a-week.

West Ham have been pushing to sign Mateus Fernandes from Southampton but appear to have given up following two rejected bids.
