A PROMISING young footballer tragically died at the age of 16 just before a dream move to Major League Soccer.
Eder Smic Valencia was killed in a horror car crash while on holiday at his native Colombia.
Valencia was due to fly to the US this week to reportedly sign with New York Red Bulls.
That was after the talented footballer impressed at the Under-16 Bulls Cup in February.
Local reports claim he was also set to represent Colombia’s Under-17 national team at the 2026 South American Under-17 Championship.
The car crash took place on Sunday morning in Guachene, which is near Cali.
Local authorities claim the accident happened after a tanker truck collided with several vehicles on the road.
The player was moving in a grey car when the tragic incident unfolded.
The circumstances behind the awful accident are currently being investigated.
Valencia’s death was confirmed by his club, Academia Alemana Popayán (AAFP).
AAFP announced: “It is with deep sorrow that we report the passing of our player Éder Smic Valencia Ambuila in a car accident while on vacation in Guachené.
“We are supporting his family and we will honour his memory here at AAFP. He will forever be in our hearts.”
Tributes started to flood social media following Valencia’s tragic death.
One fan tweeted:”Just a tragic story for a kid who was just 16 years old.”
Another commented: “Strength to his family, friends, and team-mates.”
A third wrote: “May God hold you in glory, Eder.”
