No one really asked the question.
Early in the NFL Draft process, two things became clear: Travis Hunter was the consensus No. 1 player in the class. And the Titans would use the No. 1 overall pick to select QB Cam Ward.
The relative value of quarterbacks means that those sentences aren’t in total opposition to each other, but they did create quite the intrigue when the Jaguars traded up to No. 2 to take Hunter.
Now, those two guys are division rivals. Hunter, the two-way sensation, could intercept Ward and then catch a touchdown pass against the Tennessee defense on the very next play.
If Ward is a franchise quarterback, then there’s no mistake made by the Titans.
But if he’s not, with tons of QB potential looming in the 2026 draft, Tennessee may have made a grave mistake.

The newest video of Hunter on social media shows him guarding Jags star Brian Thomas Jr. on one play and then lining up next to him on the next.

No one does that. Well, no one until Hunter came along.
Hunter would’ve been the sure thing for the Titans. They’d have ended up with the most exciting, unique player in the draft class and had options down the road to solve quarterback.
But they opted against the No. 1 player on the draft board for the No. 1 QB on the draft board. That can work out, but it can also fail.
And for the next bunch of years, each time the Titans and Jaguars meet in divisional matchups, we’ll get to think about what could’ve been. Maybe it’s a bummer outcome for Titans fans, or maybe it works out great. But it’ll continue forcing itself onto our television screens as an ongoing question to emerge from the 2025 NFL Draft.
