Just one week from today, the 2026 Colorado Rockies season will draw to a close. Despite the looming lockout and what promises to be an acrimonious labor dispute, it’s an end that some Rockies fans are no doubt ready for.
Saturday night’s victory over the Seattle Mariners in honor of Todd Helton brought back some of the joy from earlier in the season. However, it’s hard to ignore just how bad the Rockies have been over the last month and change as they limp to the finish line.
Since mid-August, the Rockies are just 9-34 with just two series wins and a series tie. During that stretch, it seems like every flaw on the team has been laid bare. From poor pitching and defense to bad baserunning mistakes and a total lack of clutch hitting—the Rockies were 4-for-20 with RISP in Friday’s loss—the 2026 Rockies of September look a lot more like the 2025 squad instead of the one that gave us hope earlier this season.
It’s clear the Rockies have hit a wall. Just 5-12 in September, the Rockies need to win six of their remaining seven contests to avoid the 100 loss mark for the fourth consecutive season. That’s a tall order.
However, the Rockies will finish at least 10 games better than last season regardless of what happens over the next week. The 2026 Rockies are better than the historically awful team in 2025. Progress is full of small steps up the foot of the mountain, and we have been here for the climb.
