Ryan Garcia laid out his four-fighter hit list of top guys that he wants to fight to test his power and ability. It may be just a coincidence, but the individuals that Kingry, 27, has on his target list are those who would bring him huge purses of millions.
No Mention of a Rolly Rematch
Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2 in a fight for the vacant WBA welterweight title at Times Square in New York. Surprisingly, Ryan made no mention of wanting to avenge his loss to Rolly, and he’s not on his hit list.
Ryan Garcia’s Four-Fighter Target List
- Teofimo Lopez
- Gervonta Davis: rematch
- Shakur Stevenson
- Terence Crawford
Those fighters may not necessarily be the best in their respective weight classes. The divisions these fighters compete in are so strong now that it’s likely that none of them would hold world titles if there were only one belt, and they had to face the crème de la crème in their weight class to win them.
Completing the “Four Kings” Chapter
“I still want to fight Teofimo. We were seen as the ‘Four Kings,’ and I want to be the first one to complete it. I fought Tank. I fought Devin. I want to fight Tank again,” said Ryan Garcia to Ring Champions, revealing his hit list of fighters.
That small list is quickly losing importance. Haney looked poor in his first fight back against Jose Ramirez on May 3 after being thrashed by Ryan last year on April 20, 2024. Some fans believe that Haney is shell-shocked from the loss. Tim Bradley says he suspects that Devin has PTSD and was mentally traumatized from his defeat against Kingry.
Gervonta Davis appears to be near the end of his career. He may only have a couple of fights left in him before he retires. Would he fight Garcia again? Maybe, but what difference does it make? Tank isn’t fighting the best and appears to be just playing out his string before hanging up the gloves.
If Teofimo loses to Shakur Stevenson in 2026, then he’ll be worthless to Ryan as well. It would be pointless for him to face him.
A Race Against Terence Crawford’s Career
“I do want to fight Shakur because that’s someone I’ve had competition with since the amateurs. I want to fight Terence Crawford. I want to fight everyone that’s a big name,” said Garcia.
If Kingry is serious about wanting to fight Crawford, he needs to start calling him out now because he doesn’t have much time left. He turns 38 in eight days on September 28, and he’s likely to retire after two or three fights, depending on the outcomes and how long he chooses to sit out of the ring in between each fight. Fighting him when he’s 41 or 42 won’t be interesting for the fans.
Ryan says he wants to see if the top fighters on his hit list can take his shot. That’s one of the reasons why he wants to fight them. He wants to test his power and face what he considers the best.
Garcia’s View on “Fabricated” Champions
Garcia views the world titles as less critical. His focus is on beating the best and maximizing his earnings. If the belts come with it, great, but that’s not what he’s interested in. Ryan adds that he views many of the champions as “fabricated” ones.
I believe what Garcia means is that he views the belt-holders as fighters who were maneuvered by their slick promoters to capture the titles. They were artificially created and didn’t win their belts by beating the best. That makes sense, as many fans view Shakur Stevenson and Terence Crawford as examples of fighters who didn’t fight the best to win their titles.
Crawford beat what many fans believe was a badly deteriorated 35-year-old Canelo Alvarez to win his undisputed super middleweight championship. Terence had never fought at 168 before that fight. He was maneuvered into the position. Shakur won his WBC lightweight belt against Edwin De Los Santos in a boo-filled performance in 2023. He didn’t fight the best guy to win his title.
