Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, says he’s not sure if they’ll take the fight with Jake Paul in February or March 2026. He’s concerned about Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) getting “beaten up” by Gervonta Davis in their November 14th fight on Netflix. A loss for Jake would change the plans for Joshua.
Hearn states that he knew Paul would fight in November, but he didn’t think it would be lightweight Tank Davis. That changes things.
Hearn says they’re not just going to sit around and wait until November 14th to see the outcome of the Paul-Davis fight before planning Joshua’s bout in early 2026. He’ll go ahead and schedule Joshua to fight someone else for early next year. It’s a missed opportunity for Paul and Joshua.
“We knew Jake would take a fight on this side of the year. I think I was the first one to say three or four months ago that the fight was agreed between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul. I wasn’t expecting it to be announced today,” said Eddie Hearn to Fighthype.
If Hearn knew ahead of time that Jake Paul was going to fight Tank Davis in November, he shouldn’t be upset about and talking about it changing his plans for early 2026.
“You have to understand the business of it,” said Hearn about the Paul vs. Davis fight. “I hate these exhibitions. I hate these 14-oz gloves. I don’t know what it’s going to be. You’ve got Jake, who is a 210, 220-pounder fighting at 135.”
Paul’s fight against Tank Davis is a logical one to make because it involves two massively popular fighters. Jake has tried calling out other fighters like Canelo Alvarez, but has had no luck. Bagging Gervonta was a good move by Paul and his team.
“It’s a bit weird, but I can’t be a hypocrite and say if you’re Gervonta Davis, who is being offered 20, 30, 40 million or whatever the number is, and you’re getting seven or eight to fight Lamont Roach in 50-50, what are you going to do? Maybe the kid is half-checked out of the game anyway,” said Hearn about Tank Davis.”
