Tyson Fury posted today on social media, hinting at a return to the ring with the cryptic comment, “You know what’s coming.” He and his trainer, SugarHill Steward, appeared in the short video, hinting at a comeback.
Given how bad Fury has looked in his last three fights against Oleksandr Usyk x 2 and Francis Ngannou, you can’t expect much. The ‘Gypsy King’ looks like the classic definition of a washed fighter. I personally don’t want to see Fury back in a cash-grab against Anthony Joshua or some other fighter. Fury looked so old in his last fight in December. Looked like he was ready for a walker in the ring against Usyk.
He’s just fighting for money now, and he has nothing left of the skills that he once had a decade ago when he defeated the faded 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko to notch his best career win in 2015.
Cashing In While He Can
Fury, 36, likely wants to return to secure a massive payday against Anthony Joshua while there is still interest from the Saudis and fans. He likely knows that if he doesn’t return now, the loot won’t be as much if he comes out of retirement later.
It’s not a surprise that Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) because boxing fans had stopped talking about him after his retirement last January, three weeks after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch in December.
It’s questionable how much interest fans will have in seeing Fury now, given his recent back-to-back losses to Usyk. He looked old and feeble in his rematch. He couldn’t do anything in that fight, losing a 12-round unanimous decision by the scores 116-112, 116-112, and 116-112. If Fury had been facing a power puncher like Daniel Dubois or Anthony Joshua, he’d have likely been knocked out.
Tyson Fury: “I was just in the gym. I bumped into somebody you might know.”
SugarHill Steward: “We’re back, guys. You know what time it is.
Fury: “You know what’s coming.”
This message from Fury will have Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, happy with the news because this is the fight that he’s seemingly been keeping AJ in a holding pattern waiting for. AJ could have already returned to the ring since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in the fifth round last December.
