The Fury Rebirth: Tyson’s Slimmed-Down Physique Signals a Return to the Ring

The Fury Rebirth: Tyson’s Slimmed-Down Physique Signals a Return to the Ring

The still retired Tyson Fury posted a short training video on Instagram, looking slender, shadowboxing in the gym ahead of a comeback in 2026. Tyson, 37, still hasn’t announced a comeback yet, but the way he’s training and his slender form make fans believe that he’s going to make it official soon.

Fury’s Lean Look

The former two-time heavyweight champion Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) hasn’t fought since his 12-round unanimous decision defeat against Oleksandr Usyk last year on December 7, 2024. He retired a month later on January 13, 2025.

Fury looks well-rested in the video clip from today and physically in better shape than he was in his last fight against Usyk. Tyson weighed 281 lbs for that fight, and was considerably heavier than the 262 pounds he weighed for his first fight against Oleksandr on May 18, 2024. Fury had complained after his first defeat to Usyk that he should have been given the division. That’s why fans were surprised at how heavy he came in for the rematch. They expected Tyson to be trim.

The Usyk Obsession

Last month, on July 2nd, Fury told Sky Sports that if he came back, it would be to get revenge against Usyk. He felt he’d been hard done by the judges in their two fights.

“If I was going to come back, I would come back for Usyk, but I want a fair result in England,” Fury told Sky Sports. “That would be the fight I want next.”

Usyk could be defending his undisputed heavyweight championship next against his WBO mandatory, Joseph Parker. After that, he’ll be free to face Fury if there’s interest on his part.

A Matter of Negotiation

“I never believed it for a second. As far as I was concerned, it’s part of his negotiation skills,” said commentator Johnny Nelson to Sky Sports about Tyson Fury’s retirement. “Mentally, he never could live comfortably walking away from the game because he’s a fighting man. He doesn’t think he lost the last fight [against Usyk]. He’s very upset and very bitter about it. I get that.”
