Teofimo Lopez encouraged his former defeated foe, Josh Taylor, on social media ahead of tonight’s fight against Ekow Essuman in Glasgow, Scotland. Taylor’s career is literally on the line with this fight at 147.

In a goodwill move, Lopez wanted to give Taylor, 34, a pep talk by wishing him luck and saying, “You’re the toughest fighter I’ve faced thus far.” Obviously, we know that’s not true, but it makes Teofimo sound like a good one by trying to lift the spirits of the down-and-out Taylor before tonight’s fight.

Teofimo’s Self-Serving Pep Talk

Lopez’s post also comes across as a sneaky, devilish, self-serving move, reminding Taylor of his defeat against him two years ago in 2023. That was the beginning of Josh’s career spiraling down. Teofimo beat him by a 12-round unanimous decision, 115-113, 115-113, and 117-111.

“Best of luck this weekend, champion! You’re still the toughest fighter I’ve faced thus far, Josh Taylor,” said Teofimo Lopez on X, giving his former vanquished opponent some badly-needed support for his clash against Ekow Essuman.

The timing of Teofimo posting this about Taylor is a conniving way to stay relevant. He is taking advantage of the interest around his fight against Essuman to have fans think about his career without lifting a finger.

Keyshawn Davis Banana Incident

We saw the same play from Lopez when Keyshawn Davis went nuts over a box of bananas and watermelons sent to his hotel room before his last fight against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk last February. Keyshawn initially blamed Berinchyk and his team, viewing it as a racist move.

Teofimo reacted to Keyshawn’s fuss by posting a video of himself eating a banana and snickering. Fans viewed this as making fun of Davis, indicating that he had secretly sent the box to him.
