Teofimo Lopez Reveals Lack of Sponsors Ahead of Shakur Stevenson Fight

Teofimo Lopez Reveals Lack of Sponsors Ahead of Shakur Stevenson Fight

Teofimo Lopez took to social media today to openly reveal the lack of sponsors and endorsements ahead of his fight against Shakur Stevenson in January.

Why Brands Stepped Away

What Teo’s post signals is the frustration with the absence of love from the sponsors. It’s easy to see why no companies are rushing to endorse him. He hasn’t been involved in a major fight since 2020, when he upset Vasily Lomachenko.

“No sponsorships for this fight and no endorsements! You gotta love it,” said Teofimo Lopez on X, talking about the tough times he’s having despite being a wealthy millionaire.

Teofimo’s post-Lomachenko run has been built around safer names — Steve Claggett, George Kambosos Jr., Sandor Martin — not the elite at 140. Even in those fights, he’s been erratic. Sponsors don’t back unpredictability, and they definitely don’t back fighters who struggle to look dominant against limited opposition.

To keep his popularity up, Teofimo should have spent the last four years after the Lomachenko fight facing the top 140-pounders. He’s shied away from doing that.

The Risks He Didn’t Take

  • Gary Antuanne Russell
  • Devin Haney
  • Ryan Garcia
  • Ernesto Mercado
  • Keyshawn Davis
  • Subriel Matias
  • Richardson Hitchins

If sponsors are going to shower them with money, they want to know that they’re consistent. Lopez has been anything but that. He’s been involved in fights that fans believed he was gifted decisions against Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin. Again, the guys he’s beaten have been nothing special.

Popularity on the Decline

Lopez’s popularity has receded like the shrinking waterlines at Lake Mead, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to reverse course. His popularity has been pulling back like the shoreline of Las Vegas’ water supply since 2021. He hasn’t panicked, but the lack of sponsorships should tell him the cold truth. He’s on the decline. There’s still water there, but for how much longer? The same with Teofimo’s career.
