Surprising stat reveals why Hurricanes are down 2-0 in Eastern Conference Final

It’s happening again.

Another terrific regular season might just be getting spoiled by the Carolina Hurricanes again, as the team is now down 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

What’s more concerning? There’s no one reason to point to as why.

“The Hurricanes registered only five shots through 32 minutes, seven through 40 and 17 through 60, leading to restless fans chanting, “Shoot the puck!!!” throughout the second period,” an article published by The Athletic said.

“The Carter Verhaeghe-Sam Bennett-Matthew Tkachuk line factored in on three even-strength goals — by Gustav Forsling, Tkachuk and Bennett — with Bennett and Aleksander Barkov also adding power-play goals. Bennett tied Dallas’ Mikko Rantanen for the league lead with nine playoff goals and notched Florida’s first multi-goal game since Nate Schmidt and Tkachuk scored twice apiece in their first game of the postseason back in the first round on April 22 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.”

Carolina’s goaltending certainly struggled, but the team also did not score a goal — another ominous trend in a series full of them.

“Our fans are amazing. The support they give us is incredible. We didn’t have enough shots tonight, so there’s probably something to it,” Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall said.

Time will tell if the Hurricanes can rewrite the script. However, for now it looks like history might be repeating itself in a truly dissapointing way.
