The Buffalo Bills have revamped the wide receiver room around superstar quarterback Josh Allen. Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman will be the top receivers for Allen in 2025, but the additions of Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore should also be incredibly beneficial.
Though Buffalo has invested a lot into the position group this offseason, the team could still use some speed on the outside, as Shakir and Moore mostly operate in the slot, and Coleman and Palmer aren’t necessarily burners.
Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios believes the Bills should try to add speed to the offense by trading for Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams.
The Bills still need another wide receiver to bolster the unit behind Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman. Williams could justify being a long-term playmaker after losing Mack Hollins this offseason and could perform at greater heights behind one of the best arms [Allen].
Williams had a long-awaited breakout season in 2024, as he hauled in 58 receptions for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns. The 24-year-old established himself as the primary deep threat in Detroit’s offense and formed an exciting duo with Amon-Ra St. Brown.
If the Lions place Williams on the trade block, the Bills would be a logical landing spot. The Alabama product would be a perfect fit with Allen in Buffalo’s offense and give the All-Pro quarterback a dynamic pass-catcher who can stretch the field and create explosive plays.
Allen throwing touchdowns to Williams would be absolutely electric, but it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
There were some rumors before the draft that Detroit could shop Williams, especially from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
“Receiver’s another spot to consider — with a fifth-year option decision coming on Jameson Williams, and some in NFL circles believing he could be traded,” Breer wrote in a pre-draft article.
However, Lions general manager Brad Holmes stated after the first night of the draft that the franchise never entertained any trade talks surrounding Williams.
“That’s something that we have never entertained,” Holmes said. “I don’t know where that report came from, but that’s not a conversation me and Dan (Campbell) ever had.”
A day after Holmes’ comments on the trade rumors about Williams, Detroit picked up the young receiver’s fifth-year option, keeping him under contract for at least two more seasons.
Williams will be a pivotal piece to the Lions’ offense for years to come and isn’t going anywhere. However, there’s no denying that he would flourish in Buffalo with Allen.
