STEVEN GERRARD is reportedly OPEN to talks with Rangers over making a stunning return to Ibrox.
The former Rangers boss is the leading contender to replace Russell Martin in the hot-seat and will speak to Light Blues chiefs about the vacant role.
That’s according to Sky Sports – who claim the Liverpool legend would consider returning to Scotland for a second stint with the Govan giants.
It’s stated Rangers chiefs Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe are preparing to hold talks with the manager, who is currently without a job after leaving Al Ettifaq in January.
Rangers are said to be drawing up a shortlist for their next boss, and Gerrard is firmly on it — although it won’t be a simple process.
Gerrard is currently based in Bahrain with his family despite leaving Saudi Arabia nine months ago.

It’s believed there are significant tax issues that have delayed his return to the dugout.
He’s made no secret of his unfinished business in management, insisting that if the right challenge arrives, he’ll be ready to jump back in — but only under the right circumstances.
Appearing on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Gerrard appeared to hint he’s looking to make a quick return to management.
He said: “I haven’t been ready because I haven’t got that team set around me. And the timing hasn’t been right.
“My daughter’s just had a baby. I’ve just become a grandad. I wasn’t ready. I haven’t got my staff ready.
“So unfortunately, those opportunities have come at the wrong time, if you like.
“But if the right call comes my way, the right club, the right challenge, and I’ve got my people set, which I will have at some point, I’ll take that challenge on because it’s in me.”
Gerrard is the first choice of a large number of Rangers supporters.
Former Ibrox midfielder Andy Halliday revealed his old manager in Glasgow is his preferred option, insisting he “ticks most of the boxes”.
Speaking on Open Goal, he said: “I’d take him back, definitely.
“There’s a rumour that he needs to stay in Saudi for a certain time to get all his money tax free, so it’s whether Rangers and the 49ers will pay the extra to bring him back.
“He’d be my choice but they shouldn’t listen to me! I wanted Russell Martin for his style.
“I think Gerrard is the one who ticks the most boxes and is less of a risk.”
