Stephen Fulton vs. O’Shaquie Foster on August 16th in Las Vegas

Stephen Fulton vs. O’Shaquie Foster on August 16th in Las Vegas

Stephen Fulton will challenge O’Shaquie Foster for his WBC super featherweight title on August 16th on the Gervonta  Davis vs. Lamont Roach 2 undercard in Las Vegas. Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) will move up in weight from 126 to 130 to battle Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) for his belt.

Fulton Seeks Third Title

It’ll be Fulton’s debut at super featherweight after recently becoming a two-division world champion, defeating Brandon Figueroa by a 12-round unanimous decision on February 1st to capture the WBC featherweight title. That was Fulton’s second win over Figueroa, and he made it look even easier than their first fight in 2021.

“O’Shaquie Foster and Stephen Fulton have agreed to a deal for a WBC junior lightweight title fight. Fulton, the WBC champ at 126 pounds, will move up to 130 pounds. Expected to land on the Aug. 16 Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach undercard,” said Mike Coppinger on X.

It’s going to be a tough fight for Foster because Fulton has excellent skills and looked improved in his last fight. The only guys that has given Fulton problems during his 11-year pro career are Naoya Inoue and Carlos Castro. He was knocked out in the eighth round by ‘Monster’ Inoue in July 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. Fulton lost his WBC and WBO super bantamweight titles in that defeat.

O’Shaquie, 5’8 1/2″, will have a two-inch height and reach advantage over 5’6 1/2″ Fulton in this fight. It’s going to be one of those fights that could come down to which of the two is the better boxer. Neither of them possesses much power.

In Foster’s last fight, he recaptured his WBC 130-lb title last November, defeating Robson Conceicao by a 12-round split decision. He lost his WBC belt against the Brazilian Conceicao by a questionable 12-round split decision last year in July. Foster complained bitterly after the defeat, believing he’d done enough to win.

What gave Foster problems in his two fights with Conceicao was his activity and aggressiveness. He was pushing the action in both fights and took advantage of Foster’s habit of fighting in spurts.
